Convicted Range Rover owner Adam Johnson yesterday tweeted his relief that he will now be known more for his recent sex crime than his time playing for Sunderland.
“It’s really embarrassing and has damaged my reputation and good character” said Johnson, referencing his time playing on the wing for Sunderland. He also added that sharing a prison cell with dangerous convicts won’t be a problem for him as he regularly shares a room with Lee Cattermole before Sunderland away games.
His defence at the high profile trial was badly organised and there was no chance of Johnson’s team coming away with a win, even with star lawyer Sam Allardyce bringing in veteran witnesses Wes Brown and John O’Shea.
Johnson joins Titus Bramble, Ben Alnwick, Liam Lawrence and Chris Brown in the Sunderland Sex Criminals 5 a Side Team, who are currently trying to sign Ched Evans and Marlon King to bolster their options in attack.
“The whole thing is disgusting” said the mother of the girl Johnson groomed “when we knew our lass was getting Whatsapp messages from a North East based footballer we assumed it was someone decent like Gateshead FC, but to find out our daughter was nonced by a player who’s team haven’t won any silverware since 1973 is absolutely mortifying. Worse than the crime itself is that we’ve now got a whole load of signed Mackem memorabilia around the house, we’ve tried to leave it out with the recycling but the binmen just won’t take it”
