A Majority of junior doctors across the country have pledged to give up working for Lent.

Spokesperson for the British Medical Association, the union which represents doctors, James Mengawale made a statement earlier today:

‘Junior Doctors have made the ultimate sacrifice by giving up something they really enjoy, working throughout evenings and weekends, for lent’.

He added that: ‘The giving up of work for 40 days until easter has nothing to do with the bullshit new contract the government is pushing on us’.

A spokesperson for the Secretary of Health responded to the action by doctors:

‘While obviously giving up something for lent is an admirable trait, most people pick chocolate or alcohol, not an entire profession deciding to stop working for well over a month. Its rather unprofessional.’
