The National Living Wage that has become active today, 1st April, has been revealed to be an elaborate practical joke by George Osborne.

Mr Osborne revealed the joke in an impromptu budget statement at 9.00am today.

‘I got you lot good, raising the minimum wage? We’re The Conservative Party, what on earth made you think that we were going to raise the minimum wage enough for people to live on?’

He added that:

‘I can’t believe you all fell for it.’

People who were supposed to be receiving the first of their increased wages from their employers have in fact been given a reminder with their monthly pay stub to pay their taxes in full this year, as the money from privatising public services is running out.
