After Dawn Butler told BBC Radio 5 Live that she has been mistaken for a cleaner in the Parliament building, a prominent Parliamentary cleaner has confirmed he has experienced the same.

James Sheen told reporters that as he was sweeping an MP’s office late one night after the 2010 General Election, a passing MP shouted “You don’t need to worry about, mate, we have people who do that for us.”

James’ colleagues tell us he was visibly upset after the incident, “He worked hard to get this job and works harder still everyday to keep it, the implication he could be mistaken for an MP really got to him.”

James also commented: “Jobs in cleaning are really hard to come by as a well-educated, white male, and this kind of discrimination is exactly why!”
